Service Description
Note: Payment in 2 instalments is possible. For 7 weeks, you will be joining a class of four and learn the basics of throwing on pottery wheel and decoration techniques. This class consists of max. 4-5 members which makes this course special compared to other alternatives, since one on one time per person is much higher. I (Sebnem) will be teaching you based on your individual level and pace. You will also spend time alone with clay for repetitive parts. Each session is 2 hours 30 minutes and final 15-20 minutes are dedicated to clean-up. What you can learn? You will have the opportunity to learn how to prepare your clay, wedging, basics of throwing on the wheel like centring, pulling even walls, trimming your pieces, how to refine them and many decoration techniques including glazing (giving it a color and water resistance). If you have already had one or few rounds of beginners course and it is not your first time on the wheel you are also welcome, I will be showing you different techniques and more advanced forms and will be guiding you about how you can improve your technique. Imagine that you are spending your evenings with ceramics where you are also being guided on techniques to learn how to use the necessary tools, how to decorate and enhance the characteristics of your unique pieces. If you have zero experience on the wheel you will learn: how to wedge clay (preparing it), how to centre the clay on the wheel, how to throw a small cylinder and a small bowl and maybe a lidded jar and how to trim them, decorate them depending on your own pace. Please keep in mind that these are the skills that takes months to get comfortable with and takes consistency and practice to be completely independent, so please be realistic and be aware that you may not be able to make everything independently as well as you will not be able make large pots as you imagine but I will help you to get decent pieces. If it is not your first time on the wheel we can create a programme for you. If you know how to throw small pots, we can start working on bottles and then closed forms and then teapots etc. We can discuss the aspects you would like to improve as well. What is included in the price in addition to the course? Clay, glazes, bisque and glaze firings are included. Max. 6-7 pieces will be fired. If you miss a class you can compensate only if a member from my other classes miss as well.
